Finished up my Midterms an I know how I did. 1 Surprise (+) and 1 Surprise (-)
In my Sociology class, I did exceptional. Being a model of sociological knowledge and a wide-vocabulary of terms. I was worried since this was my first paper written (!) in Hong Kong, and there was lots of information to be written over in merely an hour. Apparently I know lots about Chinese family relations. Guess reading and studying over 250+pgs and PPTs was worth it. Might lead to an A
Medical Economics on the other hand was a massacre. I understand that on 1 I missed the concept and did the math wrong, but on another one I got it wrong because I didn't answer a part of the question which didn't exist... I understand her reasoning to the answer, and would have given that too (100%)...were that the question answered... Surprising since lots of my knowledge is in Medical Administration and effects of costs on the market. This likely put me in the 'C bracket' for the class...
Chinese Philosophy I start my project on this week, and Asian History is to much fun and easy for me.
So then, what to do? Semester has 1.5Months left, and looks like that should breeze by quickly.
My new roomie 谢华 (Alexander) is awesome, he totally loves Southpark and all of the bad television that we Americans love and treasure.
Still craving good Oregon beer, and postulating where I will live when I come back...(insert assistance here (wink wink)). I am getting tired of 'Pork and Rice' from the Canteen, and eat lots of Sushi actually.
Dear Linfield...Why you haten' on my schedule? I now with a 95% certainty believe that I will now have to drop my Sociology Minor because of lack of courses offered and time overlaps. However, it will make me revert to my backup of a History Minor, which I'm perfectly fine with. I've talked this over with the Department Chair, and was told I might be able to get an Internship at the Spruce Goose Musesum as well.
Think that I will just do some random tours now, since I've been touring with a few pals, notably an Australian named Lachlan for delicious dinners. We've moved over to Kowloon City, and they have great Thai and Vietnamese food. Can't wait till the semester ends and I get to Scuba dive with my dad in Thailand and then tour Vietnam by myself.
Later for now

Midterms OVER!
They ended!
Sociology2690: I re-read over 250pgs in 3days, not leaving my room unless for food. Then I went over all the Power Points and looked over the notes I took; which were based on the power points. I come to the exam, which is only 1hr. I write almost enough to make it pg4 on Family structural evolution in HK and Mainland China. At the end of it, I feel that it would have been an even better paper if I would have had 30min more, but oh well. In the USA it defiantly would be a A- paper, however this really was the first assignment/review of what we've learned, so 'fingers crossed' and hopefully he'll recognize that its worth it. [done Tuesday 12th]
Econ2510: I literally freaked out studying for this. The night my Soc2690 exam was over I cam back and started on studying for this. So much information to go over. I find I actually need to be critical of Linfields BUSN department now, since with the exception of 1 Econ class taken as a Freshman, we lack lots of Econ-based knowledge. The test I think rather well, a B or B- tops since they give partial credit, its just minimal. Q1 I felt I did right, albeit with 'not enough' description regarding a Chinese 5yr plan of building hospitals and increasing demand for doctors. Q2 was a econometrics question dealing with Wine and Tobacco inflation... I realized I did it wrong, so wrote that, but couldn't figure out what. So I wrote what the answer should be, hopefully she'll see that. Q3 was about Chinese Medicine vs Western Medicine treatment tables, but was worth 25-30% and I felt like of the 4 parts I got a B on that area. Oh well. It's over. I hate this class sometime, I like learning of it, just hard to understand what needs to be expressed and often minimal explanation and I always feel like I missed something important. I hope to get a BorB- in here, since this literally is my hardest class. [Done Friday 15th]
DGC1180: I will start my Idioms project soon...I swear. Its worth lots of my overall grade too. I have 40of50 Idioms picked, I just need to allocate the time to it now. [Due Wed 20th]
Another update rather soon then regarding what I've been upto, lots actually too!

Oh, thats right...I have a blog...I blame that on HK
Yeah, I should update this more often...its not like I've been super busy!
Not really relating to HW, but more along the lines of traveling and lots of reading related to classes.
I will do a post-recap of what I've been doing after this week. Why After you may ask? Well, that's cause its Midterms!
Heres what I feel about classes so far:
-Soc2690: Like most Sociology classes there is lots of reading, and unfortunately most of the class has trouble understanding what hes teaching. Luckily I really like Soc, or else I wouldn't enjoy said class. This one focuses on the social structure and personality of Hong Kong. Midterm on 10/12/10 Tues.
-Hist2510: Modern Asia is awesome! Easily my favorite class to go to were it not for the far walk on Tuesday morning and the 8:30am start time. I love Asian history so much. I do find it funny though that we are supposed to read roughly 50pgs a week, and most students (locals) find that impossible to do. Considering its a Tues+Wed class only, thats not alot, and you have a long time to do the reading.
-Econ2510: I thought this would be the best class in the world, and it turned out to be the opposite...Medical Economics is dry, boring, is taught so strangely its hard to understand most of the time, and the HW makes me cry. To think, I want to go into this field too... Midterm 10/15/10 Fri.
-R.P.1210: Chinese philosophy is exactly as it sounds, contemplative and completely unlike other Philosophy classes I've taken. The professor speaks so many languages its unheard of, so half the class is taught in Cantonese (for 13), the other half in English (for me, a Canadian, and an Astonian). I really like the class, and the Prof really makes it worth the early AM start.
-DGC1180: I'm not one to say I'm a good artist or critic, but for almost every reference the Prof has made I have at least heard of, or know something about. Did I mention he's also a Linfield graduate too? Small world. The class might be 3hrs long on Wed, but worth it, and its right across the street from my room too. Its really 'materialized' or 'substantiated' what I know, since apparently I've known lots of the information for ages, but not the terms or justification for why things work/are understand. I have a project coming up, regarding Idioms. Oh boy does the PNW have some good ones, especially college culture-based.
For 15 (I need a total of 22 to graduate, so easy term in the Spring) credits, classes are much easier; with that one exception. Books here are dirt cheap, so used to spending roughly $350 a term, I spent maybe $60, and haven't bothered otherwise to really look at them. Same books too, just much cheaper.
Weather is finally getting cooler here. It's been for the last month ~92*F but with 65-85% humidity each day. Not its roughly 82*F and 10-30% humidity. Once it drops another 15*F then it will feel like good 'ol McMinnville. P.S. I miss going to GVB and their Oatmeal Stout...so much...
