Yeah, I should update this more often...its not like I've been super busy!
Not really relating to HW, but more along the lines of traveling and lots of reading related to classes.
I will do a post-recap of what I've been doing after this week. Why After you may ask? Well, that's cause its Midterms!
Heres what I feel about classes so far:
-Soc2690: Like most Sociology classes there is lots of reading, and unfortunately most of the class has trouble understanding what hes teaching. Luckily I really like Soc, or else I wouldn't enjoy said class. This one focuses on the social structure and personality of Hong Kong. Midterm on 10/12/10 Tues.
-Hist2510: Modern Asia is awesome! Easily my favorite class to go to were it not for the far walk on Tuesday morning and the 8:30am start time. I love Asian history so much. I do find it funny though that we are supposed to read roughly 50pgs a week, and most students (locals) find that impossible to do. Considering its a Tues+Wed class only, thats not alot, and you have a long time to do the reading.
-Econ2510: I thought this would be the best class in the world, and it turned out to be the opposite...Medical Economics is dry, boring, is taught so strangely its hard to understand most of the time, and the HW makes me cry. To think, I want to go into this field too... Midterm 10/15/10 Fri.
-R.P.1210: Chinese philosophy is exactly as it sounds, contemplative and completely unlike other Philosophy classes I've taken. The professor speaks so many languages its unheard of, so half the class is taught in Cantonese (for 13), the other half in English (for me, a Canadian, and an Astonian). I really like the class, and the Prof really makes it worth the early AM start.
-DGC1180: I'm not one to say I'm a good artist or critic, but for almost every reference the Prof has made I have at least heard of, or know something about. Did I mention he's also a Linfield graduate too? Small world. The class might be 3hrs long on Wed, but worth it, and its right across the street from my room too. Its really 'materialized' or 'substantiated' what I know, since apparently I've known lots of the information for ages, but not the terms or justification for why things work/are understand. I have a project coming up, regarding Idioms. Oh boy does the PNW have some good ones, especially college culture-based.
For 15 (I need a total of 22 to graduate, so easy term in the Spring) credits, classes are much easier; with that one exception. Books here are dirt cheap, so used to spending roughly $350 a term, I spent maybe $60, and haven't bothered otherwise to really look at them. Same books too, just much cheaper.
Weather is finally getting cooler here. It's been for the last month ~92*F but with 65-85% humidity each day. Not its roughly 82*F and 10-30% humidity. Once it drops another 15*F then it will feel like good 'ol McMinnville. P.S. I miss going to GVB and their Oatmeal Stout...so much...
the seasonal is out at GVB...
ReplyDeleteTannenBomb...
plus I've perfected the Reuben. you'll get your fill after you over indulge in Asian culture hehe
DGC? What does that stand for? Sounds like quite the eclectic spread of classes, otherwise.
ReplyDeleteMatthew: UGH!!! Do want so much. Perfected? In such short time? That hurts man... I cant even get a Reuben here.
ReplyDeleteVirdeus: Its the Visual Culture Department. It really is. (who is this!?!)
