Dinner for Two, Food for Five

Lucky for you, 2 posts back-to-back

This post is in reference to something I love, ahem to some of you..., something which I'm always willing to spend on and let others enjoy: Food.

Thats right, delectable edibles, nutritious noms and flavorful fatty food. I'm a low-income foody, so I'm lucky that Hong Kong has so many varieties of food for so cheap. Particularly going out with my pal Lachlan, whom is never shy to want to go out for a nice meal, maybe a beer or a glass of wine, and to poke a few jokes at the campus canteen; the B.U. Fiesta. This Australian has traveled the world and rightfully knows whats good, and whats even better. I know which is good because of a common statement from him when I'm examining the menu, "No, don't eat that, its horrible," has become synonymous for "I like that, I hope you order it."

We frequent trips to just a few, since like most, we all have our favorite places to dine cheap. Genfoku; the Japanese restaurant near old campus where Sushi is cheap and set meals cost less then $5US ($30HK) for a $20US price tag, +Karen the owner is a doll. Then I have Kowloon City, a 15minute walk each way to a plethora of Vietnamese and Thai food. No matter what I order, I want more. Each plate is roughly $6US ($45HK) for a great full plate. Hence why ordering 2 plates is great. Since I usually go with just once person, five plates usually do us the trick. 45minutes and one full-gut later and were set.

Curry to Kababs, Pho to Lentils, Mixed Green Papya Salad to Pad Thai, even though I am writing this post-meal my lips are now watering over how good the food is.

Interestingly though, Sushi is common (and cheap) and Cheese is worth it's weight in Gold. I can't find Chips (non-Frito Lays/Doritos) and Salsa, which is no good since thats a mainstay of my College-diet, and Hummus is to pricey for consumption. Luckily though Beer is everywhere and I can get many varieties for cheap. Pizza Hut is $12US ($88HK) for a large pie, but in reality its a smidge-smaller then a US Medium at almost double the price. McDonald's had motorbike delivery, and I eat that too often here, since I NEVER eat it in the USA, sane prices here too; but unlike the Europeans I don't eat it everyday, for them its 1/3rd the price. I miss Milk too, Melamine is a worry, and I think I'm spoiled by good milk state-side. I went to a 'Mexican' restaurant, well, it was more 'Mexican inspired' to say the least; at least they tried.

Food from the Jade Market:
Beef Curry, Beef Brisket Stew with Onions and Turnip, Vietnamese Pork Lemon Grass over Rice and Rice Side
I end on this:
People may ask, "What would you do for a Klondike Bar?" Well, I'll tell you what I'd do for a Double-Bacon Cheeseburger (extra Blue Cheese) with a side order of Two Steaks, Mashed Potatoes, a Large Chocolate Shake and for dessert a Triple-Bypass Surgery with some Crem Brulee.
